Porretta Soul Festival meets Muscle Shoals

Crazy Chester Records' Andreas Werner put together the 14 piece Muscle Shoals All Star Band for the world renowned Porretta Soul Festival. The band includes Musician Hall of Famers Jimmy Johnson and David Hood of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section also known as the Swampers, percussionist Mickey Buckins and guitarist Will McFarlane with music arrangements by Charles Rose of the Muscle Shoals Horns. The Porretta Soul Festival which takes place every summer in the town of Porretta Terme in Northern Italy is the world's premier festival for vintage soul music. This year will be the 27th edition of the festival that is dedicated to the memory of Otis Redding.

Past performers were rhythm &blues and soul music legends such as Solomon Burke, Mavis Staples, Eddie Floyd and Booker T. & The MGs including Muscle Shoals underground hero Eddie Hinton's only performance outside of the US in 1992. This year's festival is dedicated to the Muscle Shoals sound and the Muscle Shoals All Star Band will perform three completely unique shows on July 18th, 19th and 20th, backing up singers like Carla Russell of Kozmic Mama, Denise LaSalle,  Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie and Vaneese Thomas (Rufus Thomas' daughter).

This project would have not been possible without the generous support of the Shoals Marriott Hotel in Florence, Alabama, Florence/Lauderdale Tourism and the NuttHouse Recording Studio in Sheffield, Alabama.
